Alighiero Boetti #GamePlan #MoMA Alternando da uno a cento e viceversa (Alternating From One to One Hundred and Vice Versa), 1993.
A grid of 100 squares, each made of 100 smaller squares. The beauty of a mathematical progression of infinite possible combinations: from bottom left: one small white square on black background, two black squares on white background, three white squares on black background, etc… last square at upper right completely black. Boetti made 50 kilim rugs like this one, each with a different visual possibility by using the same patter and the same rule. boetti commissioned the execution of each design to friends and students, who had complete freedom in choosing the positions of the black and white squres but had to follow the fix pattern and the given rules.
